We believe that it is the positive team attitude we always maintain that empowers us to do it. We trust that if we keep learning our craft, have a passion for our work, communicate with our team and never lose sight of the end result that we will create projects that are remembered for all the right reasons.
Through our work we aspire to balance and benchmark sustainability, functionality, economy, aesthetics and creativity to achieve our clients’ vision. We seek to build trusted relationships with our clients which help achieve intelligent design solutions, rigorous processes and detailed documentation.
We demonstrate loyalty and commitment to each and every project that we work on. Our designs are imaginative and client focused. We produce them because we want our clients, and their staff and users, to have the same positive experience we do coming to work every day.
PDT is committed to working with clients, suppliers and regulators to improve the environmental quality of the built environment in Australia. We provide sustainability leadership within the construction industry through education and knowledge sharing, beyond best practice design & implementation.
Our team contains professionals specifically trained in environmentally sustainable design including Green Star Associates. As a company we view sustainability holistically, not just environmentally and this is reflected in our Sustainability Policy .
Individual staff members are affiliated with sustainability organisations including AGDF (Australian Green Development Forum) and ATA (Australian Technology Association). We are also a corporate member of the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA).
Our In-house ESD Committee advocates sustainability, filters information and provides tools to educate and assist all staff within the practice, including a Sustainability intranet resource hub providing regular blogs.
We have an ongoing policy to improve our company’s ecological footprint by providing incentives to staff to adopt sustainable behaviours and by making small but significant operational changes, In November 2013 PDT designed and relocated to new premises with sustainably designed interiors where we can continue to make in-house improvements to our footprint and practice what we preach. Our new office studio has been awarded a 5 Star Green Star Office Interiors V1.1 accreditation .
PDT's founder Lange Leopold Powell commenced practice in Queensland in 1909
Characterised as a rare individual and brilliant man with very definite ideas and a keen sense of humour Lange` was deeply committed to the profession of architecture and held various positions at the Queensland Institute of Architects including presidency between 1923 and 1927.
While president, he was instrumental in setting up the Architects Registration Act requiring all architects to be registered before practicing the profession.
In 1938, two employees Robin Dods and Stewart Thorpe purchased the practice and the name PDT Architects (Powell, Dods & Thorpe) was born.
Fast forward to today and PDT Architects is one of the largest and most prolific architecture practices in Queensland.
