With the opening of the Sunshine Coast University Hospital, the Queensland Government undertook a $17 million redevelopment of Caloundra Health Service and has created a refreshed facility to deliver on its vision of 'health and wellbeing through exceptional care'.
Within this broad framework, PDT set out to deliver a facility that would; reduce operational costs through consolidation and sharing of services and resources, enhance service delivery through careful planning, and provide a facility that reflects contemporary models of care.
The scope of the project included amongst other things; the upgrade and expansion of palliative care services, the conversion of old ward spaces to accommodate child development, allied health and other community services, the conversion of the existing emergency department to an urgent care centre and the inclusion of diabetes services.
Project Director, Ian Downing stated; "The project had potential from the beginning to re-purpose existing buildings into functional and necessary community facilities creating value for money for Queensland Health’s investment in health care. Caloundra now has another exceptional health facility.”
