The Mackay ARC is a partnership project between the Federal Government,
Mackay Regional Council and Central Queensland University and sporting associations in Mackay. The overall project vision is to jointly develop a multi-facility Precinct to cater for the future growth of Mackay and meet the clearly identified future planning needs for sport and recreation in the region. Stage 1A and 1B represent the first stage in the overall Masterplan.
PDT Architects and Paynters worked together in a Design and Construct collaboration to deliver an IAAF Class 2 Athletics Facility, including a new clubhouse, canteen and synthetic running track as well as a new Aquatic Centre featuring a FINA certified 50m outdoor competition pool, 15m covered heated pool and a 25m covered learn to swim pool. All pools are temperature controlled.
The Changing Places facility is the first registered facility of its kind in regional Queensland and has proven to be highly beneficial since it’s opening.
This highly successful collaboration has achieved a remarkable facility for the people of Mackay.
