Spring landscaping at Aveo Durack Aged Care Facility

The design included indoor courtyards for residents and visiting families to sit amongst colourful sub-tropical planting, with feature decorative screens providing privacy for the adjacent residents rooms.

Studies have found that recreational and/or occupational activities assist people with dementia to remain more functional and help reduce anxiety and depression.

Our design responded to this with the use of enclosed outdoor walking circuits that included raised productive gardens, fruit trees, a garden gate, dog kennel and bird bath that tapped into the senses of sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste.

Longer meandering paths were also designed for those more able bodied residents to explore the gardens, with table and chair settings allowing both residents and their families space to enjoy the fresh air.
