The vision was to establish a sporting facility to attract the international and national level sports of Basketball, Netball, Futsal and Volleyball competitions to provide the greater community access to a broad range of activities reflecting the needs of the city.
The multi-purpose nature of the facility drove the need for adaptive spaces and a universal hall to capture the array of sporting regulations and potential for community special events and activities.
The design consideration is due to the costal proximity and exploration, and ensuring the longevity of selected materials would withstand the harsh marine environment, mitigating ongoing maintenance and cost to the facility,
The architecture design was developed to command street presence as one of the towns key facilities along Cherry Street, employing a material palette with subtle accents and a tiered façade to emulate breaking waves and promote human scale to the front elevation.
