About the Project

Located in the heart of James Cook University’s Medical Precinct, the Medicine and Pharmacy expansion is designed to accommodate world leading research and education.

PDT designed the expansion of the university facility of medicine, health and modular sciences, creating a centrally positioned structure with a physical connection to other faculty buildings, promoting collaboration and interaction between departments.

Project Team

Laurence Taylor

PDT designed the state-of-the-art medical technology and research facility in response to the brief to integrate into the existing university village master plan, making allowance for future expansion and providing direct links to a nearby hospital.

The design provides an active ground place with a focus on urban street scape and contribution to campus life, while promoting collaboration and interaction between departments. The Medicine & Pharmacy expansion has a physical connection with the all-weather breezeways connecting the school to anatomy and clinical skills and research wings.

The school’s multi-functional spaces include anatomy labs, clinical examination spaces, PC2 research labs, offices, and a 300 seat, tiered lecture theatre and general teaching spaces.
