About the Project

The Wesley hospital is one of Brisbane’s largest hospitals with 550 beds.  PDT+STH were commissioned to provide health planning and design for the East Wing Project.

The new wing substantially increased the hospitals capacity providing a nine-storey multifaceted hospital wing that could combine immediate care, rehabilitation, outpatient and research services.  PDT also needed to design the new wing to connect to the existing hospital over several floors in different locations.

The PDT Team has always worked consistently and collaboratively on each project with the builder and the executive team of the hospital to achieve design objectives in an open, flexible and friendly manner. I have no hesitation in recommending them to other clients

Outcome

Successful completion of the project required extensive knowledge of the trends, needs and varying models of health care. PDT combined this knowledge with the application of evidence-based design to ensure the hospital was constructed to meet evolving needs in patient care.

All work was carried out whilst the hospital was in operation which required a strategy that involved early and detailed planning and in-depth user consultation. Careful consideration was given during the design process to inpatient accommodation, which has been designed with an emphasis on comfort, privacy and immediate access to clinical staff.

The resulting $102 Million Wesley Hospital East Wing offers the very latest in patient and medical technology to support Queenslanders recovering from surgery and injury.
