Celebrating 40 Years with Ray Pini at PDT Architects

This year marks a significant milestone for PDT Architects as we celebrate Ray Pini's 40th Anniversary with our studio.

Ray has been an invaluable member of our team since he joined in 1984, and his contributions have left an indelible mark on our practice and our community.

A Legacy of Inclusivity and Respect

Ray exemplifies inclusivity and respect in every aspect of his work. Throughout his tenure at PDT Architects, Ray has consistently treated everyone with respect, regardless of gender or background. His commitment to fostering an environment of mutual respect and inclusivity has been unwavering, setting a standard for all team members to follow.

The Heart of Our Festivities

One of Ray's most beloved contributions to our studio culture is his annual Christmas Skit, a tradition that has been going strong for 28 years. Thanks to Ray's creativity and enthusiasm, we've enjoyed a variety of performances, from comedy sketches and live shows to music videos and, most recently, TikTok viral videos. His sense of humour and joy have brought us together, creating cherished memories year after year.

A Dedication to Excellence

Ray is not only a kind and generous individual but also an incredibly knowledgeable Senior Architect. His dedication to his work is unparalleled, often described as giving 200% to every project. Ray's expertise and reliability have made him a cornerstone of our practice, trusted by colleagues and clients alike.

Professional Achievements

Over the years, Ray has advanced from a Graduate to a BOAQ registered Architect, Senior Associate, and Partner at PDT. His portfolio is diverse, encompassing projects across education, transport, retail, commercial, sport and recreation, cultural, hospitality, and heritage sectors. Notable projects include:

109 Edward Street: Ray was the Architect for the heritage restoration and upgrade of this former warehouse and theatre, transforming it into serviced commercial offices and hospitality spaces in the Brisbane CBD.

The Corso and The Space, North Lakes: As Project Leader and Architect, Ray collaborated with user groups and indigenous consultants to create unique community facility spaces for MBRC.

Murrumba State Secondary College: Ray's master planning expertise is evident in the innovative indoor-outdoor learning precincts he developed by modifying an existing dam and landscapes.

Passion for Mentorship and Heritage

Ray is passionate about adding value to projects by enhancing environmental, functional, and design outcomes for clients and the broader community. He highly values the mentorship of students and staff, nurturing the next generation of architects. Additionally, Ray has a deep interest in local and indigenous heritage, as well as a love for all things Queensland, especially the Broncos.

A Pillar of Our Community

Ray's commitment to our office culture, his colleagues, and the broader community is truly inspiring. As we celebrate his 40 years with PDT Architects, we honour not only his professional achievements but also the kindness, joy, and inclusivity he brings to our team every day.

To show our love and appreciation of Ray and to thank him for his dedication to PDT over the past 40 years, we threw him a surprise party! Little did he know we would be celebrating him with – Ray fashion, poetry, trivia, and yummy food in lieu of the ‘Compulsory WHS Workshop’ it was disguised as. We all wore his typical Friday attire of Jeans and white shirts and tested our knowledge of Ray Trivia – with 40+ years of Ray’s stories, hobbies, projects and more to cover. The night also included a poem written and performed by the PDT Directors, which we have included here for you to enjoy!
