About the Project

The Empire Theatre Restaurant complements the adjoining theatre and nearby heritage listed buildings while making its own contrasting design statement.

The PDT team worked closely with Toowoomba City Council to create a purpose built restaurant facility that would create opportunities for events and maximize the restaurants location next to the delightful Empire theatre and surrounding heritage buildings.

In 2005 the Empire Theatre precinct in Toowoomba underwent a major redevelopment. As part of this Development PDT designed a contemporary 150 seat restaurant which included a private dining room lounge bar and court yard. The redevelopment considerably expanded the restaurants seating capability and provides additional space to hold weddings and events.

Making the most of the climate and scenic heritage surrounds PDT has incorporated large bi fold doors providing dinners with an outlook to the grounds of the theatre precinct and affording the restaurant flexibility in its function space.

As a result the restaurant can offer dinners in an atmospheric indoor outdoor dining experience amongst the surrounding heritage buildings.  The increased capacity to cater for functions and events means that the purpose built restaurant facility is now a popular dining option for Toowoomba residents and visitors, offering something beyond that of the traditional restaurant experience.
