About the Project

PDT Architects were approached to design a “state of the art“ education facility to inspire elite students throughout the state.

Following the philosophy that the creative world no longer conforms to the notion of a socially and economically isolated ‘artist’, the Queensland Academy for Creative Industries is not a hermetically sealed institution.  Instead the building design encourages what is often an explosive mixture for creativity: the interaction between its creative students, the public and other institutions.

PDT designed a “world class learning environment of choice “ creating a  multi-level high rise education facility which met the clients five key design priorities: functionality, flexibility, connectivity, compliance and sustainability and addressed QACI's education philosophy of Create + Design + Innovation = Solutions , which became the  focal concept for both the exterior and interior of the building.

The finished building is visually interesting and provides a legible urban environment at pedestrian scale providing 6,300m2 of floor space over seven levels.  The facility boasts a double height art gallery, 250 seat theatre performance spaces, editing suites, art and music studios, a recording studio, together with science laboratories, general teaching spaces and easily supervised break-out spaces.
