About the Project

‘The Space’ regional youth facility has been designed to promote a sense of ownership and freedom of expression through social and cultural activities

Redevelopment of the existing North Lake’s community centre has led to the creation of “the space”, a vibrant and busy youth centre offering a dedicated multipurpose area for the young people of the local community to socialise, have fun and get creative in a welcoming environment.

As an ex skater myself many years ago, I loved coming up with specific types of skateable terrain that needed to fit within a very compact space

PDT consulted with a social planner and community groups to create a resource that provides long term benefits to the young people of North Lakes and the greater Moreton Bay Region.

Display cases line the interior wall showcasing skate boards and art works. Serviced by a bright café, the combination of open seating and booth areas creates a hangout area located between the computer lab and performance studio.

Externally the space is serviced by a half-court basketball court, stage and amphitheater for events and a grassy knoll for relaxation.  The entire external space also incorporates skateable terrain that caters for a variety of skills and age groups.
