Kedron State School
PDT Architects were appointed by the Department of Education QLD (DoE) to design additional accommodation as part of the expansion of Kedron State School. As well as the design and documentation of the new building, PDT Architects were also tasked with the refurbishment and upgrade of the existing Administration Office Building into new General Learning Areas (GLA’s) to accommodate an increased student population.
A new 3-storey building is now home to the administration staff with office facilities and two levels of GLA’s, thoughtfully designed with key nods to the established school and its rich history.
Selected red brick that tie with the existing buildings that date back to the 1920s. Timber look battens clad the façade and blend with the surrounding character trees on site. These trees were emulated through the spine of the building’s staircase, in the form of a sculptural tree element that acts as feature lighting and structural support. Large windows allow natural light to flood through the building’s internal passages while framing spectacular outlooks to the surrounding neighbourhood.
