PDT Architects were engaged by the Queensland Department of Education as the Principal Consultant on Stage 3 of the Mackay Northern Beaches State High School. Our designers worked closely with the Department of Education, school stakeholders and Ridgemill Project Management to design and deliver the $12 million project under a traditional contract with FKG Group.

The brief was to enhance the school’s master plan through the design and documentation of a new performing arts centre, outdoor sports courts, outdoor plaza spaces, walkway links and minor refurbishments of existing buildings for GLA conversions.

The newly designed Performing Arts Centre convey the concepts of rhythm and movement through the form and materiality. The centre houses specialist dance studios, drama classrooms, a music GLA, ensemble rehearsal room, dressing rooms, costume and props storage, a box office kiosk and a mezzanine level that provides space for AV / lighting equipment, staff workroom and kitchenette.
